Philippines' King of Comedy - Dolphy Passes

One of the most admired comedians in Philippine cinema and one of the most respected actors in the local entertainment industry passed away last night. Dolphy died of pulmonary disease.

Philippine President Noynoy Aquino was quoted, “He changed not just his industry, but also the national consciousness. Through his art, he widened our outlook, he gave us the power to find and cherish happiness in our daily lives.”

The Daily Tatler describes him succinctly as Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Dolphy was widely regarded as the country’s “King of Comedy” in a career that spanned seven decades playing colourful comedic roles, from a cross-dressing homosexual to a poor jack of all  trades.

Dolphy died after a five-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), according to his long-time partner, actress and singer Zsa Zsa Padilla (from ABS-CBN News). Which was surprising when only days ago it was reported on the news that he was responding well to treatment. I guess I should have figured after all his children came to care for him.

"We would like to inform the public that Mr. Rodolfo 'Dolphy' Quizon, passed away today, at 8:34 p.m. due to multiple organ failure, secondary to complications brought about by severe pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and acute renal failure," the Makati Medical Center said in a statement.

We are fortunate to have enjoyed the satirical laughter brought about by Dolphy. His disposition through life and his contribution to the local entertainment industry is a testament of how Filipinos are happy, resilient and just plain difficult to put down.

Vampire Diaries Most Handsome Vampire in Palawan

I feel rather giddy right now, knowing the most handsome of the Vampire Diaries -- Mr. Ian Somerhalder landed in Manila then is now in El Nido, Palawan. He's in the Philippines! And he thinks it's beautiful!

“Reporting live from some beautiful island in the Philippines where it's,on my time schedule, impossible to sleep past 5AM :( SO beautiful here,” the actor tweeted.

Well, he's no less beautiful too

According to ABS-CBN, “Vampire Diaries” heartthrob arrived at the popular tourist destination on board a chartered flight. He arrived in Manila last Saturday. Somerhalder is expected to do a photo shoot for his endorsement of the clothing line. He and his group are reportedly staying at Lagen Island

He's just about to make El Nido a more attractive place for tourism. Come to Cebu Ian!

Proud to be Pinoy? Jessica Sanchez in American Idol's Top 2

Maybe it's just hype that Jessica Sanchez is being dubbed as half Filipina, I would have been proud but Wikipedia says Jessica Sanchez is an American singer as she was born and raised in the USA. The only claim to fame for Filipinos is the fact that her mother is Filipino American born in Bataan. Well who knows really right? I guess she just desperately needed the votes of another billion or so country that wouldn't have voted for her had she been truly American

She looks very Filipino though, quite the Sarah Geronimo look-a-like

Sky Cable Cebu Nightmare Customer Service

Consumers beware of Sky Cable Cebu

I have a bone to pick with Sky Cable Cebu. The last couple of months I have been paying via my BPI Online Express Payment account which I do the same for other utilities and insurance payments. I work the BPO shift - it's not very easy for me to do real banking and real housewife errand stuff

I received a notice of disconnection this month, and for that I had to go their office to clarify why I received a notice of disconnection when I have been paying these bills. When I went to the Ayala Center Cebu branch - they simply told me that they CANNOT help me. Customer SERVICE told me they CANNOT do anything. How frustrating is that?

The reason I was told that they simply cannot do anything for me was that online payments are coursed through Manila. And they cannot trace the accounts that go through Manila - even if it's the SAME company. This is sad because the amounts are deducted from my account. Essentially I HAVE PAID. I did my fair share as a consumer. The money is no longer in my possession I cannot spend it, I cannot reallocate it for something else because it has been paid to SKY CABLE.

Now since apparently the Cebu office of Sky Cable cannot help me, I called the hotline of the Manila Sky Cable office, and a nice young man said he too cannot help me because my account is a Cebu account and so he cannot see it.

Where does this place me as a client? I will eventually have my cable television disconnected because Sky Cable can't figure out their shit. They would rather I pay again - another 3K pesos to make sure my Sky Cable connection stays in place.

Consumers beware of Sky Cable Cebu

Can Law Against Extra Marital Affairs be Passed in Patriarchal Philippines?

This Manila Bulletin article came out just 12 hours ago. Apparently Congress just passed a bill against sexual infidelity (Yes, because there are not enough problems in this country - we have to concentrate on this)

A House of Representatives committee has approved a bill that would impose stiff penalties on married citizens engaging in sexual intercourse with an individual other than his or her legal spouse.

The House Committee on Women and Gender Equality has endorsed for plenary action on House Bill 5734 which also eliminates gender bias in laws penalizing the crimes of adultery and concubinage.

HB 5734, an Act Defining the Crime of Sexual Infidelity, is a consolidation of five bills filed by Deputy Speaker Ma. Isabelle Climaco; Susan Yap (LP, Tarlac); Josephine Veronique Lacson Noel (LP, Malabon-Navotas); Teddy Brawner Baguilat (LP, Ifugao); and Linabelle Ruth Villarica (LP, Bulacan).

The bill defines sexual infidelity as an act committed by any legally married person who shall have sexual intercourse with another person other than his or her legal spouse.
Lacson-Noel said HB 5734 does not exempt a person whose marriage has been subsequently declared void.

However, the crime cannot be prosecuted by anybody except upon the complaint of the offended spouse.

''The bill aims to protect the institution of marriage,'' the neophyte solon said.
Lacson-Noel said the bill also eliminates the disparity between the penalties imposed by existing laws on the crimes of concubinage and adultery.
Under Article 333 of the Revised Penal Code, adultery is committed by a married woman who engages in sexual intercourse with a man not her husband. Offenders are punishable by prision correccional, a maximum jail term of six years.

On the other hand, Article 333 of RPC metes out on the offender a penalty of destierro or banishment from the community where the couple lives for a certain period of time.

HB 5734 treats the two crimes as the same acts that constitute sexual infidelity.

A penalty of prision correccional in its maximum period will be imposed upon a person who is found guilty of keeping a ''paramour in the conjugal dwelling.''

On the other hand, if cohabitation takes place in a location other than the house of the legally married couple, the penalty will be prision correccional in its medium period.

Lawmakers proposed that an offended party can no longer file charges against the alleged offender if the former is also guilty of sexual infidelity or had abandoned the guilty spouse without just cause for more than one year.
I don't think this will pan out. Many politicians have already been dubbed as womanizers and what-not. It would be way to hypocritical

Katrina Halili Confirms Pregnancy on 24 Oras

Sexy Start Katrina Halili - 3 Months Pregnant

Sexy star Katrina Halili, once linked in a much publicized sex scandal with the infamous Hayden Kho is now 3 months pregnant. Baby daddy is said to be "Moments of Love" singer Kris Lawrence who was her rumored boyfriend before and after the sordid affair with Hayden Kho. she has confirmed her pregnancy with multiple news agencies now.

I wonder what will happen to her career? Although now a staple in local soap operas, it wasn't too far back into history that she made her money off being scantily clad in numerous shows and photo shoots. I'm all for her though as she goes into motherhood. It will sure improve her image.

20 Reasons Why They Dislike the Philippines

According to Sunstar, person was already dubbed as persona non grata. But really why is he still here if he dislikes the place so much? There are a lot of things here I agree with but just like only I can insult my sister - he can't go saying bad things about my city. Only I can Sunstar article
A Cebu City councilor wants the American who made a video on the things he disliked about the Philippines declared “persona non grata” in the city. City Councilor Sisinio Andales said Jimmy Sieczka has embarrassed the whole country, particularly Cebu City, in his 25-minute video that has been circulating in social networking sites. The areas featured in Sieczka’s video entitled “20 Reasons I Dislike the Philippines” are all in Cebu City. Sieczka has been living in the city for the last three years. “Iyang gipakatap sa tanan nga way ayo diri, nga it’s not fun to be in the Philippines,” said Andales. He said this is in contrast to the tourism promotion slogan of the Department of Tourism “It’s More Fun in the Philippines.” With this, Andales said he will file a resolution before the City Council next week declaring Sieczka “persona non grata.” In a phone interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday, Andales said Sieczka should have called the attention of concerned government officials or agencies about his problems with the city before making the video. In the video, Sieczka said that among the things he dislikes in the country are the beggars, the heavy traffic, the garbage on the streets and the “uncomfortable” comfort rooms. While he finds their presence sad, Siezcka described the spread of beggars on the streets as “annoying.” He also said the garbage on the streets “pisses him off.” He described the traffic as “disgusting” and the public comfort rooms as “heroin dens.” He also doesn’t like the Filipino’s obsession with whitening products, unsafe construction sites, taxi drivers who keep on beeping, security guards who are untrained, sidewalks that reek of urine and the improper frisking in malls. Online, Sieczka said the video he posted was just “to spark change” and that he simply pointed out issues that may have been “overlooked for quite some time.”

KC Concepcion Goes Wild After Piolo Break-up - Sexy Rogue Magazine Cover

Many would say she's gone insane but some would say she wanted to make a statement. KC Concepcion appears in current month's Rogue magazine cover in a high cut white bathing suit showing her fine bottom to the adoring public. Also a set of sexy pictures inside
Some commentaries mention this risky move is as a result of the Piolo Pascual break up. Maybe it is. But I've been writing too much about break ups recently so let's cut her some slack. She's big enough to show some skin (and rich enough too)

Jinkee Pacquiao on Mega Magazine - heavily photoshopped?

Jinkee Pacquiao's latest faux pas with the public. Was the really heavily photoshopped? Original materials from Marketing Critic
The controversial cover of Jinkee Pacquiao on Mega Magazine has caused quite a stir online. It's true that the powers that be in marketing here may have gone overboard in the photo enhancement but I think anyone in their right mind would like their best possible photo featured on a national magazine - real or enhanced or fictitious.
I don't think it's that different from her behind the scenes shots. Jinkee does look significantly more attractive and that's great. But being in the public eye does have its draw backs, just as I claim to be a marketing critic - she too will have critics. She never made it a secret that she'd had work done so I don't quite understand that big fuss over it. This is a better look for her

Did Ramona Kill Ramgen Bautista Revilla? The Revilla Murder Drama Continues

This is such a strange tale - the Revilla murder drama rages on. After being killed, Ramgen Bautista Revilla's sister who was considered a suspect - leaves the country for Hongkong

Apparently Ramgen was shot in his room while he was there with his girlfriend. Both were shot, the girlfriend - Janelle Manahan is still alive but wounded, however the younger Revilla died

Both his sister & brother were seen leaving the crime scene and both were suspected of involvement in the crime. The sister - Ramona who reportedly left the country just days after her brother had died apparently told the authorities some other fairy tale instead of the truth so now she has provided contradicting stories even making her look more suspicious. This is more than a celebrity murder - this is a celebrity scandal! What can you expect from Pinoy showbiz? It's not only the typical homicide now but a sensationalized one at that

Hear What Philippine President Noynoy Aquino Had To Say on Youtube Interview International Live Streaming

The President of the Philippines - Benigno Aquino III on Youtube World View. This is a good thing to do. Might as well go public with his plans - promotes transparency of leadership. I've heard him labeled as not the sharpest knife in the presidential drawer, but you've got to give him points for trying.

Was Charice's Father Killed With An Ice Pick Or Screw Driver?

Recent new regarding Pinoy showbiz centers on the murder of Charice's father - Ricky Pempengco. If you don't know who she is, Charice is the international singing sensation born and raised in the Philippines - later discovered by Ellen Degeneres and managed by Oprah, she now stars in concerts alongside the famous David Foster and appears in television series like Glee.

According to semi-conflicting reports, her father was murdered in self defense according to the man who surrendered last Monday - the man's name was Angel Capili Jr., still a little confusing as I read 2 reports - one say he was killed via ice pick stabs to the neck and back which the suspect admitted to carrying around for self defense (this was from Philippine Star). While another source (via News Flash) relays that he stabbed the father of Charice with a screw driver he used for work.

That is quite suspicious don't you think? Anyway the Philippine Star reported that he was already charged after admitting to the murder. Somebody got paid a handsome reward for it too. Makes it a lot more suspicious if you ask me

The Philippines' Own SuperMan - Goes Through Extensive Surgery To Look Like Man Of Steel

Should we call this the ultimate cosplay? Herbert Chavez, 35-year-old Filipino designer has decided he literally wanted to grow up and be superman.

He went to the extent of extensive cosmetic surgery just to look like Superman. With so many procedures, check out the before and after pictures. Everything from his nose, lips, cheeks, chin and even skin whitening (Hello, Michael Jackson?)

Once a typical-looking Filipino, Chavez now has the firm-jawed face of Clark Kent.

A curl of black hair falls on his forehead, and he occasionally sports the thick, black glasses of his idol's nerdier incarnation, mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent.

He is planning an operation that will give him a more muscular abdomen and is looking at specialised surgery in Japan that will insert metal in his legs to make him taller.

This is next-level idolizing. We can call him our very own local celebrity, our own Superman
