Mayweather vs. Ortiz: What Really Happened?

What really happened during the Mayweather vs. Ortiz fight? Were we ripped off by a staged fight? Or was it just a pure example of dirty fighting by Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

Whatever this showing was intended to be, it was poor form on both boxers.

More than anything else, boxing after all is a spectator sport. They have to make the match fun and not be so obvious about whatever really happens behind the scenes.

Unfortunately this was not avoided and this ended up one of the most controversial fights of the decade. I'm glad Mayweather's opponent wasn't Pacquiao. No wonder Mayweather seemed scared of Pacquiao. For sure Manny Pacquiao wouldn't go down without a "real" fight.

I tried to look for the video of the knockout but it's no longer available on Youtube.com, you may view it here though for results, replays, and reactions.

Best in Cebu: Best Party Places

What are Cebu's best party places? Well first we have to identify if the party's for a child or a child at heart. For a child it's a lot easier with all the fastfood places these days offering party options

Best places for having a party in Cebu
  1. The usual fastfood joints - Jollibee and McDonalds have packaged parties for children and of course the usual themes, there are the princesses and the Ben 10 characters + typical mascot appearances. These I think now start at 7K for 30 children.
    • Less hassle as you'll have a lot of the party paraphernalia handled by the crew in the restaurant but you have to admin you won't have much of a choice to what they will be
    • They'll also host the party which is always a good thing given there will be approximately 30 kids in the room. Not being the one organizing that event would help you maintain composure throughout the party
  2. Why not have a beach party? After all we are in an island in the Pacific. A beach party can range from a cheap get together in a relatively open beach like Portofino or Hadsan (if it's still open) or having it fully customized for your needs like in one of them posh resorts like Maribago Bluewaters or Shangrila. There are also some mid-range resorts that you can take advantage of along Mactan
  3. Restaurants in the city. Plenty regular restaurants in the city offer great prices if you book a function room. They will usually charge on a per head basis or per order. But you can leverage the food order vs. the space you want to take. I've tried the following locations as party places
    • TamGu Grill Cebu - this is in Paseo Arcenas Banawa. They have this 2nd floor that's good for about 30 people, so quite intimate but it's private and they will let you book it for as low as 5K which I think is very affordable
    • Big Mao which used to be in Crossroads - but is now in Terraces Ayala Center, also had this huge place where I even had a puppet show location for my daughter's friends. I think they also have a function room in Ayala
Other restaurants around Cebu also have this same feature, albeit a wee bit more expensive particularly for an older crowd who likes to party in Cebu

  1. There's Mr. A up in Busay which is far but has a great view. Food isn't so bad either
  2. There's Penthouse and Loft or Vudu for the party people type who prefer drinking and dancing - not for children though
  3. The more classy places include Anzani and Belini just going up to Marco Polo Hotel. Hotels will also be an option at this point for those who would like a more formal setting. Other great hotels are Marriott, Radisson Blu, Shangrila of course

Best in Cebu: Best Supermarket

I'm going on a "Best in Cebu" to highlight what are the top restaurants, locations, birthday/ party places, gadgets and the like to help the average metro professional around the compact city of Cebu. This is of course based only on my personal opinion with some parameters for objectivity but nevertheless it boils down to my personal biases and needs. If you agree or disagree, please feel free to air out your thoughts. I'm always open to new albeit contrasting ideas

Let's start with Best Supermarket or grocery store. A couple come to mind immediately

  1. Metro Gaisano/ Metro Ayala - this is one of my favorite places because
    • Location: It's right in the middle of everything. Uptown Cebu
    • Prices: Relatively affordable - some of the items are very competitively priced
  2. Foodarama - I've asked many a homemaker and many swear by this place as the most affordable in this side of the city.
    • There's hardly a lot of people there too so you have time to go around and not waste time
    • Product variety: You may miss some items, but of what is there - they are one of the best prices you'll find
  3. Shoemart or Save More - SM does not fail when it comes to product variety they have almost everything. I say almost because you will not find Colgate there. I'm not sure why but I've heard rumors. Anyway fact is, you will not be able to buy it there, among other things - but very few. By comparison to other places, you'd have the highest possibility of finding what you need in SM
    • And you don't just need to go to SM City Cebu now to get SM needs - there's Save more in Park Mall, Mactan - there's even the new SM Hypermart
    • Ambience: Very crowded particularly during weekends and sale periods.
    • Traffic: Can be very painful if you get caught during again - weekends & when there's a sale
    • Also received negative publicity from a recent shooting in one of their Luzon malls - that must have been quite a scare
  4. Robinsons is actually not a bad option except for the negative publicity they got recently when an armor car got robbed
    • But there are other Robinsons options now too - Robinsons Cybergate doesn't really have a supermarket but it's a great place to eat particularly if you have a patient/ doctor to visit in Chong Hua Hospital
    • There's also Robinsons in BTC or Banilad Town Center - very quiet there. Product variety not as extensive but they've covered the basics. When in a hurry and just have a few items to pick up this is usually a good place as it isn't too crowded
  5. La Nueva and Unitop are also very affordable options. However is located in downtown Cebu City where parking is horrible and traffic is worse. I often find myself having difficulty navigating the labyrinth of roads there just to get back to Uptown

Ms. Universe 2011 Results: Bb. Pilipinas Shamcey Supsup Makes It to Top 3

Our very own Shamcey Supsup made it to the top 3 of Ms. Universe 2011. That's just amazing. Of course I was hoping she'd actually win, given her family name has a sordid meaning in the local dialect it would be nice if she was able to make up for it with a Ms. Universe title under her belt.

Winning 2011 Ms. Universe is Ms. Angola Leila Lopes who looks stunning in her bikini. No wonder she won. China's Luo Zilin came in fourth, Philippines' Shamcey Supsup was third, Brazil's Priscila Machado second and Ukraine's Olesia Stefanko was picked first runners up.

Our very own Shamcey Supsup in her choice evening gown during the 2011 Miss Universe Presentation Show on September 8 at the Credicard Hall in Sao Paulo, Brazil was born in General Santos City - where Pacquiao resides as well.

According to many articles, she led in the online polls - which makes sense, there must have been millions in the Philippines voting for her. She also has a good head over her shoulders, graduating from the University of the Philippines-Diliman as magna cum laude with a degree in architecture. Not to mention, she also topped the Architecture Licensure Examination in July last year.

Derek Ramsey Was Married!

According to PEP, Derek gave short statements about his previous marriage to a former Filipino-Indian girlfriend. That is such a surprise for me since he's such a hottie. Who would have believed that? Anyway he's still yummy so I don't really care so much

Here's his statement as picked up from PEP:

"It's over and done with. Actually, we can't speak about it but it's over," he said in an interview at the press conference of his newest auto loan endorsement with East West Bank.

The presscon was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC)  in Pasay City.

He added that it never affected his relationship with current girlfriend, actress Angelica Panganiban.

"It was never a problem," he told PEP.

"It's just something that they brought up.

"Like I said, it was something that was nine years ago that I have to deal with and it's been dealt with."

The relationship of Derek and Angelica already faced a number of controversies in the past years. However, the celebrity couple still managed to keep their romance going.

For Derek, keeping a relationship is "a lot of hard work."

He added, "The love is there, of course. But, I think, our secret is to let each other grow."

Ah that's sweet, Angelica is one lucky girl. Though I still hear he sleeps around, the level of public affection is just huge.
